Character Descriptions and Callback Info

JESUS – Must be the most charismatic individual in the cast. High energy, charming, funny, gentle but with strength. He is the sort of person others instinctively follow.

Vocal Callback – Alas for You, Beautiful City

Script Callback – Pages 8, 11, 63-64

JOHN THE BAPTIST/JUDAS – He has attributes of both Biblical figures: he is both Jesus’ lieutenant and
most ardent disciple and the doubter who begins to question and rebel. Like Jesus, he is also charismatic, but in more of an overt revolutionary way. Usually played by someone handsome and masculine, with an undertone of sexuality. He is the most “serious” and intellectual of the group, though as well as with all the actors, he must possess a good sense of physical comedy.

Vocal Callback – Prepare Ye, All for the Best

Script Callback – Pages 8

DISCIPLES – We are looking to cast 16 multi-talented, unique and diverse individuals to play exaggerated character of themselves to be the Disciples of Jesus. These “characters” are YOU. We are casting YOU!  Your perspective. Your talents. Your quirks. According to the Bible, Jesus’ disciples included a wide variety as well–  a fisherman, a tax collector, a zealot, a greedy person, etc. To represent this variety within the context of Godspell, we want a cast that is strong in unison, while each member will have an ability to let their unique personality, traits, and talents shine through. We will work alongside you to craft your character throughout the rehearsal process – based on what YOU bring to the table. Specific songs, solos and lines will be decided based on who is cast and the best fit. Casting of Godspell is a puzzle, and we are looking for different pieces that all can work together.
