A Real Life Charlie Brown! – Acting Out Theatre Co.

It has now been over a month since I first found out that I would be portraying Charlie Brown in Acting Out Theater Company’s You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown. I have to admit, portraying such a globally iconic character such as Charlie Brown has been quite the intimidating task! He is a character that I think a lot of people hold close to their heart as a nostalgic memory of their childhood. I think that is one of the things that is going to be unique about bringing this show to Kankakee County! Our audience is truly going to transported back to their youth and remember way they felt as children through this show. The songs, the set, the choreography and the costumes will have you feeling like a kid on a swing set once again.
But what I think is most rewarding is bringing to life a character that is so deeply relatable and easy to understand. I have been told too many times to count that the best actors truly embody the entire personality of the character they portray: their likes, dislikes, mannerisms, ways of processing feelings, etc. I have whole-heartedly grown to love Charlie Brown, as I think there really is a lot of him in all of us. From our highs to our lows, our wins and our losses, our greatest attempts to our worst defeats, Charlie is an exceptional example that life really isn’t always perfect, but that there can be good found in everything if you’re willing to look for it. And so as I come to rehearsal each week, I find more of Charlie Brown within myself with each and every scene, and that is something I appreciate most about this amazing show.
