“You can have your wish,…”

By Michael Keigher

“You can have your wish, but you can’t just wish. No, to get your wish you go…

Into the woods has always been my favorite musical. My first lead in 7th grade was for a middle school production of into the woods as the narrator and I fell in love. Into the woods is all about learning important lessons and the journey we take in life.

As I graduated high school I heard about a new Theatre company that was not only doing my favorite musical, but venturing outdoors to perform it! The prospect of outdoor Theatre amazed me and I knew I had to be a part of it.

From that point on, the outdoor Theatre bug sunk its teeth in and hasn’t let go.

Acting Out Theatre Company has given me amazing opportunities. Portraying the wolf in into the woods helped me learn that I could take on new challenges and go outside of my comfort zone.

Big river taught me the importance of togetherness and the value of friendship.

Chicago threw me into a new position as a stage manager and I learned how important timing was, as well as a new appreciation for the behind the scenes aspect of Theatre.

Les Mis helped me grow as a singer, but also helped me grow in confidence, character, and the knowledge that passions should be chased.

Cats humbled me and I learned how to support a show in many different aspects, as well as the power of community.

Sleepy hollow helped me focus on creativity and thinking about the “big picture”.

Sweeney Todd taught me how to be more flexible and how okay it is to be human and make mistakes. It’s a Wonderful life helped me appreciate the life I have and the journey I have taken to get here.

Beauty and the beast was really a turning point for me, as I learned how to be a better leader and helped me explore an amazing opportunity as the assistant director.

Working with Sharon Richardson and the whole acting out crew is always an incredible experience. You will never find a more devoted and hard working group of people. The accomplishments of this team are astounding and it has been one of my personal goals to join the company as a board member. I am honored, humbled, and excited to accept the board’s offer to become a board member.

I am incredibly excited for this next chapter, or act, in my journey. I hope to bring a fresh perspective to the board, as well as some new ideas of projects you will hopefully hear about in the near future. I want to focus on the longevity of acting out, and ensure that future generations will have the opportunity to experience quality outdoor theatre productions. Finally, I want to continue to grow as a person and as a leader with amazing examples by my side. I want to thank every person that has played a part in my Acting Out experience so far.
I hope to see you in Act Two!
